For thirty-something years, Paige thought memories existed only in the past, but now she knows better. She can’t explain how or why, but special moments exist inside beloved trinkets — clinging to a letter, a ring, even a worn-out pair of boots. With a simple touch of a cherished token, Paige can relive someone else’s memory, see the world through her eyes, and feel her deepest emotions.
When Paige returns from each event, or “glimmer,” a small part of her has changed. Who is this gourmet cook, fashion designer, feisty lover? And how can she explain all of this to her family without their assuming she’s lost her mind? Paige thinks her new talent is a gift … until she’s transported into her sister’s memory and catches a glimmer of her secret life.

GLIMMERS by Barbara BrookeGLIMMERS is the first novel in a new series by Barbara Brooke. Written in the fantasy genre, GLIMMERS follows Paige as she struggles with her new found ability to read memories from the past.
Paige is married, the mother of 2 and living a normal life in the suburbs. Her weakness for consignment goods (ala 1980's ankle boots) will find her locked into the memory of a young woman experiencing her first love and loss, and the heartbreak of knowing she wasn't good enough. As the previous owner of the books, Delilah's memories will take Paige through the summer of 1988, working at a resort lodge, where she meets William, the son of a DC politician and socialite mother. But by the time summer vacation is drawing to a close, Delilah knows that there will be no future with William and embarks on a heartbreaking series of events to ensure that William is no longer a part of her life.
Paige has no explanation for her sudden ability to experience the memories of someone else. And the most confusing side-effect, Paige is now able to cook like a gourmet chef!!!! Didn't Delilah have hopes and dreams of one day opening a French style restaurant? Not realizing why or how this has occurred, she tries to proceed as usual but the vivid memories continue to haunt. When she finally confesses to her husband Elliot, he is concerned that perhaps his wife is ill, but her determination to prove that Delilah exists will take both she and Elliot on a surfing safari through the internet-but with no luck.
Hailey is Paige's younger sister. About to marry Derek, Paige has agreed to help Hailey, including picking up her engagement ring from the jewelers. And yes, you guessed it, Paige is pulled in to her sister's memories, but what Paige finds is nothing that she could have imagined. And it will take Paige and her mother, Elliot, Hailey and someone from Hailey's memories to ensure that Hailey's 'happily ever after' will take place with the right man.
Her continued ventures into the past has Paige anxious and worried. Elliot has considered both emotional stress and a possible brain tumor, but Paige is determined to prove that she has come into some 'super powers' as she has now named her ability. And her mother's visit will bring everything into focus. With each travel back in time, her focus becomes clearer, her vision opens. And it is the memories attached to her great grandmother's cameo earrings that will push Paige to help Hailey make the most important decision of her life. And like the memories from the past, real life will come full circle and Paige will finally have the chance to meet the woman who experienced her first love in the summer of 1988.
GLIMMERS is a wonderful story, written in first person POV, without foul language, graphic sex and violence, or confusing plotlines. The premise is interesting, nothing original, but well worth the price of admission. I have no problem recommending this book.

Glimmers edition by Barbara Brooke Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
The idea behind the story was interesting. The main character feels a physical connection and "relives" the life of another person through touching objects that were precious to them. I finished the book and kind of wondered what the point was - not great lessons learned, the angst wasn't that angstful and the story just kind of ends. I assume this is setting up a series but I am not interested enough to pick up the rest.
Loved this book. Characters were believable - plot was decent and flowed nicely. What I especially liked was how all the people talked normally - nothing stilted. The idea of being transported back to another time was brilliant and to the lives of regular people, living their own lives the best they could. The fact that Paige was able to take ideas from them and use them in her own life to make it better was especially nice. Looking forward to the next book and who Paige will meet.
I am in the 50+ age group and therefore not a pre-teen by a long shot. I really liked this book. I also did not consciously note escessive exclamation marks. I was probably too wrapped up in the story to notice.
If you are like me and getting tired of supposedly romance books that involve raping, murder, kidnapping and torture, then take a time out an read this book. It just deals with a time in the lives of 3 women, when love came calling, and the HEA????? Pretty neat.
LOVED this book, Barbara Brooke takes us on unexpected journeys thru time when with just the touch of an object emotionally attached to the owner our lovely Paige gets a "Glimmer" into someone's life seeing thru their eyes, feeling their emotions. This all helps Paige improve her life and discover new talents, Her Husband Elliot is delightful, fun, loving and supportive, This book is lighthearted and just a feelgood story. I highly recommend this book if you want to smile ) I give it 5 sparkles...
I like the possibility of being able to get first-hand feelings from an object. Barbara does a great job of letting us see into three other lives besides that of the main character, and the end brings back the beginning. Well done!
I truly enjoyed reading Glimmers, and it pulled me in from the very start. Each "story" was wonderful and I felt connected to the different characters almost immediately. In a story that has many stories within it, it's usually quite hard to follow, but this was not. I give the author kudos for that. A few little things though. I saw some typos which is always a bit distracting when you are pulled in. Also, in my opinion, there were too many exclamation points used. Again, that was distracting at times. Most of the time, I loved the stories, the descriptions, and the dialogue, but there were instances where the it felt the dialogue was a bit forced and I didn't "buy it". Not all the time, but sometimes it just didn't feel natural. In general, the read was very young adult like (which may have been the intent, which is that case, awesome!!). If this was written for the pre-teen or teen to read, then great, mission accomplished. If the author was going for a bit of an older audience, I can see how it would turn some folks off. Personally I'll read anything from kids lit (like Diary of a Wimpy Kid), all the way to adult reads (Shades of Grey), so I was happy. It was very PG, maybe even G rated. Overall, fun to read and looking forward to more!
Thoughtful book of how others' lives can influence ours, told in a whimsical series of glimmers the main character receives when she dons previously owned apparel. As she gains new found insight and skills from the lives she has randomly "inhabited", we find that the randomness isn't that at all. The book gives one pause to think about how we might be affected should we receive the same gift of glimmers.
